About Me
I am Nadia and I am running for re-election for Beaverton City Council. I am the first Muslim to serve on a city council in the state of Oregon. I am also the first South Asian elected in Washington County and Beaverton. Like so many in Beaverton, I grew up in a multigenerational family. Our house was always full of cousins, aunts, uncles, friends and neighbors!
And like so many children of immigrant parents, I struggled to find my place in the school system and wider community. All that began to change when I moved to Oregon and I attended Westview High School (Go Wildcats). I got involved with DECA, a high school organization that prepares students for careers in business and the Diversity Club which brought students of various cultures together. Our team placed first in state at DECA through the mentorship of amazing teachers.
Beaverton is where I learned I could belong and thrive - everyone in our community deserves that.
Thanks to Beaverton teachers and mentors, after college, I worked with DC Comics and GiantRealm in Los Angeles and New York City establishing relationships with Fortune 100 companies to harness the power of digital advertising.
In 2009, I knew it was time to come back to Beaverton, a community near to my heart. I attained my Master’s degree and taught CTE courses at Sunset and Beaverton High School. Eventually, I transitioned into Human Resources working for local companies like Fred Meyer and Nike focusing on talent acquisition, DEI and program management.
Now, I am a mom, raising three kids in Beaverton schools, navigating the hardships of parenting and childcare that so many Beaverton residents face on a daily basis.
In 2020, I ran for city council, because I want to help create a better, brighter Beaverton. Over the last four years, I’ve successfully navigated our new form of government, leveraging my role to pass policies that help all Beaverton residents belong and thrive.
But, the work is not over. As we continue to grow, we must continue to invest in sustainable infrastructure, create economic stability for residents and businesses and ensure everyone feels safe in Beaverton.
I am running for re-election because Beaverton is at a crossroads. We need someone with the right experience who deeply understands our new form of government and who will listen to our greater community.
I’ve met hundreds of constituents and community groups, answering questions, hearing concerns and helping to solve problems across our city. I’m ready to continue that good work for another four years.
Together, we can create a sustainable future for Beaverton where everyone belongs and thrives.
Vote Nadia Hasan on May 21!
